MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
(HVAC Experience Preferred)

The Housing Authority of the City of Americus is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Maintenance Mechanic. This position involves the performance of semi-routine and diversified duties in connection with repairs to and maintenance of buildings and grounds requiring many skills found at the journeymen level such as carpentry for woodwork repairs, plumbing repairs, electrical and painting work. Preference will be given to applicants that are certified in HVAC work and certified in handling freon. Additional preference will be given to applicants that hold a State of Georgia HVAC contract license. Education and experience requirements include graduation from high school or GED equivalent, two or more years' proven experience in a journeyman level craftsman in one or more of the building trades or equivalent and have a valid class C or better driver's license and have a driver's record with no major violations. Minimum starting salary is $20.18 per hour plus benefits. Interested persons must submit a complete job application to the Housing Authority of Americus, 825 Mayo St., Americus, GA 31709. Applications must be received by August 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. local time. Successful applicant will have to successfully complete a drug screening test, a criminal background check, a driver's license history check, and a credit check review. Effective Wednesday, July 22, 2026, we will open ALL Waiting Lists for all RAD Properties Eastside & Northside Americus Developments, which consist of (Eastside: Cherokee, Hanson, Dixon, Lakeview, and Douglas Circle. Northside: N. Jackson, Reddick, Bozeman, Brinson, Brookdale, Masonic, Barbara Battle Way). Scattered Sites, which consist of (Andersonville, Plains, and Leslie).

FOR: HOUSING AUTHORITY RESIDENTS ONLY

The Americus Housing Authority will be giving away FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES on Friday, July 24th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The location will be the John C. Anderson Community Building @ 117C Hanson Drive.

In addition to free school supplies, we will also give away free books, face masks, tees shirts, sack lunches, etc.

We look forward to seeing all of our residents there.

This is a full-time administrative position involving administrative and general clerical work which requires someone who gives attention to details. Education and experience requirements include graduation from high school or GED equivalent, knowledge of computers and MS Office products, responsible public contact work, organization skills, and the ability to work well with people. Applicants must have a valid class C or better driver's license and have a driver's record with no major violations. Starting salary is $20.18 per hour at 40 hours weekly.
