Top Ten Places to Live in New Hampshire
(according to HomeSnacks [homesnacks.net])

IN AN ANNUAL poll by HomeSnacks, Hanover ranks as the #1 place to live in New Hampshire.
The online data gathering site has a detailed way to create the rankings. Ultimately, they choose
places that have a population of more than 5000 and consider an array of attributes including median home
values, median income, population density, unemployment rate, crime, education levels, commute time, health
insurance coverage and poverty rates derived from census data and the FBI.

HERE ARE THE TOP TEN FOR 2020:

#1 Hanover
With the ninth lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3.4 percent and a low crime rate and commitment to quality education, HomeSnacks believes “things are looking peachy keen in Hanover.” And by the way, the median home value is $576,700 in this town of 8,591.

#2 Portsmouth
History abounds in this seaside city that went from #13 in the rankings in 2018 to #2 for 2019 and 2020. The unemployment rate of 2.5 percent is the fifth best in the state. The median home value? $397,400 which makes it the second best in the state.

#3 Hampton
Hampton is no stranger to top ten lists, being named one of the best places to live in the country by multiple outlets over the past ten years. And that tends to happen when home prices hit $358,300 at the median and households make $92,688 per year. And, of course, there is the location to swoon over.

#4 Durham
In Durham, the crime rate is lower than the state average, and the unemployment rate sits at only 5.7 percent in this college town of 11,101. The median home value is $342,900, the 4th highest in the state.

#5 Londonderry
Londonderry has some of the highest home values in New Hampshire, and they’re going up fast. The median home value is $295,800 in this town of 11,465 with an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent.

#6 Exeter
At #6, Exeter offers an impressive amount to do while maintaining a small town’s charm. Median home values top out at
$228,000 with unemployment at 3.9 percent.

#7 South Hooksett
Here’s another ranking you might have to look up on a map. They can’t build homes fast enough here as it seems everyone wants a piece of South Hooksett with its median home value of $257,800. They prefer to call themselves a
community and not a city.

#8 Lebanon
Moving up from the #10 slot last year, Lebanon has the third lowest unemployment rate in the state with home values centering around $243,500. Median incomes are fine at $68,675.

#9 Milford
You may need a map to pick out Milford which ranks #9 on the best places to live list. (It is located between Nashua and Peterborough.) The median income in Milford is $66,270 per year and median home values are at $228,700 (11th best)

#10 Dover
The crime rate in Dover is the lowest of all places in the state and people have been flocking to this town in recent years. We think it’s even safer here than the numbers indicate. Folks in Dover enjoy a high adjusted median income and home value weighs in at $249,600.
