On September 28th, the National Association of REALTORS® encourages local and state associations to take a moment and acknowledge the work and dedication their Association Executives put forward on Dale Stinton AE Appreciation Day. Today, we celebrate the amazing individuals who work hard daily to make our associations successful here is Alaska.
Here are a few thoughts to share regarding how some of them got into the profession and what they would share with anyone who thinks they know about being an AE.
How did you become an AE?
1. I answered an ad for a different job entirely...10 years ago.
2. I was bored and recently retired, a few REALTOR® friends thought I would be a good fit...and I was.
3. I was recruited out of retirement for a "part time" job. Once here, I found the flexibility of the work schedule, the diversity of tasks, and the new relationships with high energy REALTORS® to be great, which keeps me engaged.
4. I was recruited based on a recommendation from a high school friend who was a local AE in Arizona. After much consideration, I thought learning a new chapter of acronyms would be useful in my career.
What would you share with someone interested in becoming an AE?
1. Grow a pair - toughen up because each President is different and you have to learn how to modify your approach.
2. Be inventive - find alternative sources of revenue rather than just depending on membership dues. It's the AE's job to see the overall organization succeeds.
3. Stand up for yourself, and don’t give up all your time and friends working 50-60 hour weeks. You’ll never get that back.
4. It can be a fun job, and you meet a lot of great people. REALTORS® sometimes have a bad day or transaction and accidentally take it out on us. You need to have tough skin at times, patience, and be able to give people grace.
5. It is a dream job for a multi-tasker, no day is the same and you will get out of it, what you put in.
6. Reach out for help instead of struggling on your own, the AEs work to support one another.
Thank you Rosetta, Kristie, Kelly, Paula, Shar and Dani for all you do!
