What an HONOR to attend the USS Ted Stevens Commissioning ceremony yesterday in Whittier. The rain and cold didn't matter; they made the ceremony all the more special, Alaska Tough special.

I'm so incredibly proud of my daughter participating in the ceremony with the Robert Service High School Navy JROTC program and seeing her get a glimpse of what her future might look like.

The ships tour was incredible and made more special after exchanging and handshake and a few words with Alaskan leadership.

Senator Ted Stevens left huge shoes to fill. From his Alaska First policies, to his passion for the military (specially the Air Force), to his military service, to his fierce dedication to building the infrastructure of our great state. Honored during WWII with two Distinguished Flying Crosses, his service laid the groundwork for a lifetime of fighting for Alaska.

​Naming our state’s largest airport after him was just a start. Having a state of the art Flight III Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer, the USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128), carry his name and motto, "Lead with Courage," into the fleet is a fitting tribute to the greatest Alaskan senator and war veteran we’ve ever known. Even all these honors are just a small token of gratitude for a titan who gave everything to our state and nation

The day before closing, I took my buyer to walk through the property one more time, and we realized the seller's plumbing contractor did not repair the dishwasher correctly!

Also, make sure these air gaps, as ugly as they may be to look at, point at your sink just, otherwise, all this water could be in your cabinets or floor!

PLEASE DON'T TRY TO REMOVE TREES WITHOUT A PROFESSIONAL: This weekend's power outage triggered by an individual trying to clear trees from a powerline using an electrical lift reminds us to review the national safety guidelines for clearing.

Tree cutting and vegetation management are required to prevent contact between overhead conductors and trees, which can cause outages, fires, or other safety hazards. Only line-clearance trained arborists are permitted to work within 10 feet of energized lines. Unqualified workers or homeowners should never attempt to cut trees or remove branches.
