In Camden, Alabama, Gaines Ridge Dinner Club occupies a historic home dating to 1827. The house was converted into a restaurant in the mid-1980s, and today it's known for Southern food, its famous Black Bottom Pie, and something considerably stranger.

Ghost stories.

Over the years, owners, employees, and visitors have reported unexplained experiences inside and around the house. One of the best-known legends involves a mysterious woman reportedly seen moving past upstairs windows. Stories also describe hearing a woman scream or call out when nobody could be found.

Then there's the crying baby.

Visitors and staff have claimed to hear an infant crying despite no baby being present. Another recurring story involves the unexplained smell of pipe smoke drifting through rooms. Some accounts even describe an apparition resembling a tall man dressed in black.

Are there actually ghosts at Gaines Ridge?

Nobody can prove that.

These are paranormal stories and local lore, not established scientific facts. But the stories have become such a part of the restaurant's identity that Gaines Ridge is regularly included among Alabama's best-known supposedly haunted dining locations.

And the restaurant itself is very real and still operating in Camden today.

So you can actually sit down for dinner inside this historic Alabama house.

Just don't spend the entire meal staring at those upstairs windows.
