The Lochloosa Cabin is an 800+ sq. ft.

Often referred to as The Cottle Creek Cabin, I renamed this hidden gem to the Lochloosa Cabin in recognition of the sentiments of JJ Grey… and I pray that developers never find her hidden coves. off-grid getaway tucked deep in the woods of South Alabama, perched beside the winding waters of Cottle Creek. Designed for comfort, simplicity, and soul-deep rest, the cabin runs completely off solar power with battery storage and propane backup—so you’re never truly “roughing it” but you’re never on the grid either. And, while it has A/C, we ask guests to use it thoughtfully to help conserve energy. Water comes from our private well, naturally filtered through layers of sand and limestone. It’s clean, refreshing, and free of chlorine and fluoride—so don’t be surprised if it tastes better than city water… and ask any old timer around here and he will tell you, “its a lot better for you too!"

Ideal for couples seeking peace and quiet, artists needing solitude, digital nomads, photographers or just someone who needs a little healing time - the cabin comfortablly sleeps two in the double bed, but it also includes a cozy loft with twin beds. Wildlife is abundant—deer, fish, raccoons, wood ducks, osprey, turtles, beavers, and every song bird you ca imagine… why even the occasional turkey might wander through your view! At Lochloosa, you’ll trade noise for stillness, screens for stars, and hurry for slow. Come stay off the grid—and maybe find yourself in the process.

People often ask why I don’t rent the cabinet on the weekends… It’s because I love it too. I just choose to share it with you during the week. Most Saturdays during the fall we grill or cook on the Blackstone, watch a little college football and retire around the campfire on a cooler evening.

It is one of my favorite places in the world.

 Even in this hot, stingy stretch of late summer, when the sky just flat refuses to let go of a drop of water, those morning glories are still finding a way. Sure, I tend to them from time to time, but I am a sad excuse for a Gardener. I water them on occasion… But that’s about it.

It’s kind of how it goes sometimes. Life doesn’t need perfect conditions. Just a little bit of tending. A splash of water, a steady hand, a bit of attention  and up from the sometimes dry and brittle dirt, come something beautiful.

Most days at Lochloosa, the morning starts quiet. This time of the year, the air is still heavy from the humidity of the night. But, no matter how thick or heavy the air of life feels… The sun still rises. And quickly, the quiet of the morning explodes with the beauty of the day.

So, come for a visit… open the door, give it a moment, and give those plants a drink, and maybe sit a spell, you can actually feel something in you start to loosen up. Just like with those plants… troubles don’t vanish just because you find a place to rest or some water to drink.. They never do. But they will drift a bit at Lochloose… like a little bit of cloud cover finally rolling in. You can relax in the relief.

That’s the gift of the place. You give it a little care, and in return, it gives you back some quiet strength, enough to start again.

But you won’t see anything if you stay inside the entire time!
