COVID-19 Update: Today we were notified that one of our Powdersville YMCA lifeguards has tested positive. They last worked on Wednesday, June 24th. We followed SC DHEC guidelines for contact tracing: those that were within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes. After talking with the lifeguard, we identified 3 individuals that were exposed and we have spoken to all 3 families. Because the lifeguard worked outside and it has been 3 days since being at the YMCA, it was not necessary to close the YMCA.

Separate from this incident, we were also made aware of an event that occurred last night (Saturday June 27th) and 17 of our staff attended this event. Unfortunately, someone (not a Y staff member) who tested positive also attended this event. We have asked all 17 of our staff to immediately quarantine and be tested or quarantine for 14 days. Because the exposure is so recent, there are no concerns over exposure at the YMCA from last night’s event. We simply want to openly communicate this since it is a fairly significant impact on our YMCA staff.

As far as we know, no one from our summer camp, staff or campers, has been exposed from these two incidents therefore camps at the Powdersville YMCA and Mt. Airy Church will continue as normal.
