One of the biggest mistakes I see home buyers make? Assuming they have to use the first lender they talk to.

Just like you compare insurance rates or shop for a new vehicle, you should shop around for a mortgage too!

Here’s what you’re comparing:
🏡 Interest rate
💰 Closing costs & lender fees
📉 APR (Annual Percentage Rate), which gives a better picture of the total cost of the loan
📅 Loan programs (FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional, down payment assistance, etc.)
🤝 Customer service, communication, and how quickly they can close

“But won’t multiple credit checks hurt my score?”

Not necessarily! Credit scoring models generally treat multiple mortgage inquiries made within a short shopping window (typically around 14–45 days, depending on the scoring model) as a single inquiry. That means you can compare lenders without your score taking a big hit, as long as you do your shopping within that timeframe.

The right lender can save you thousands of dollars over the life of your loan and make the entire home buying process much smoother.

✨ Local Business Spotlight: Ride With Faith – Auburn, Indiana 🐴❤️

One of my favorite parts of being a local Realtor is getting to shine a light on the incredible organizations that make our communities so special.

This week, I’m featuring Ride With Faith, a nonprofit founded in 2008 by Pam Connelly-Castle with a mission to use the healing power of horses to help children, teens, and adults who are navigating trauma, mental health challenges, behavioral struggles, and difficult life circumstances. What began as one woman’s passion for both horses and helping people has grown into a place where lives are being transformed every day.

This organization is especially meaningful to me because I personally boarded my own horse there after she came from a previous barn in poor condition. Pam and her incredible team took amazing care of her, helping nurse her back to health with the same compassion and dedication they show every animal and every person who comes through their gates. It gave me a firsthand look at the heart behind their mission.

In addition to their equine assisted programs, Ride With Faith also offers quality horse boarding, providing attentive care in a safe, welcoming environment.

As someone who loves supporting our local community, I encourage you to check them out, share their mission, volunteer, or donate if you’re able. Organizations like this make Northeast Indiana an amazing place to call home.
