All pets (dogs/cats) must now be leashed when they are not on their owner’s property, under changes to the animal control ordinance recently approved by the Ankeny City Council. Effective immediately, animals must be on a leash no longer than six feet while in public spaces such as sidewalks, parks, trails, and other public or private property. The only exception is the Ankeny Dog Park, where dogs are allowed off-leash with a valid Dog Park Pass.
