🚧 Construction for NE Trilein Drive and SE Shurfine Drive projects begin Monday, April 13.

What to expect:
• SE Shurfine Drive will be closed from SE Hulsizer Road to SE Delaware Avenue
• NE Trilein will be closed from NE Cambridge Court to NE Garland Court

NE Trilein Drive is part of the City’s 2026 PCC Reconstruction Program. This project includes pavement reconstruction and minor utility improvements along NE Trilein Drive from just north of NE 18th Street to just south of NE Cambridge Court. The project will be broken up into three stages. Stage 1 will close NE Trilein Drive from just south of NE Cambridge Court to halfway through the intersection of NE Garland Court Monday, April 13. This project is expected to be completed Fall 2026.

As part of the City's Street Patching program, SE Shurfine Drive will be closed from SE Hulsizer Road to SE Delaware Avenue beginning Monday, April 13. SE Shurfine Drive will be receiving multiple patches in two groups. A signed detour utilizing SE Hulsizer Road, Lorenz Drive and SE Delaware Avenue will be posted. Patching work is expected to last one to two weeks, depending on weather.

Plans for the Ankeny Charter School will be presented at the April 7th Planning and Zoning meeting. The proposed development is at 2605 SW Oralabor Rd and encompasses a three-story, 22,430 square-foot building with an area to the west for a playground and a future building addition. Primary access to the site is provided via SW Oralabor Road Frontage Road. The proposed project includes a combination of fencing, screening elements, and controlled access and security to the site. A 42-inch decorative metal, wrought iron fence is proposed along the north side and a portion of the west side of the site helping to create an attractive boundary and provide security. A black 72-inch vinyl chain-link fence then surrounds the south and east sides of the site for security. A gated entrance system is incorporated into the entrance design to control access and safety. The sliding gate is an extension of the decorative fence proposed along the north side of the site and incorporates a 20-foot opening along the main entrance. This opening is adequate for fire and emergency services. As a side note, this land was the site of one of the original schools in Ankeny, the Nagle School, which was built around 1900.

Plans for an Izumi Restaurant and Retail Center will be presented before the Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday, April 7th for a location just south of Costco at 1950 NE 36th Street. It will be a 17,930 square foot, multi-tenant building on 2.14 acres. Izumi Restaurant will anchor the western half of the building.

The City of Ankeny is in the very beginning stages of planning to extend NE 18th Street to NE Frisk Drive. This will involve building a bridge over I-35 as well as an 8-foot sidewalk on the south side of the street along with storm sewer and street lighting. Environmental, traffic and concept studies along with topographic and boundary surveying of the land will be starting soon. Future hearings will be held on the project but none are planned yet since it is in the beginning stages. The projected timeline is to have the final design and right-of-way acquisitions to happen in 2028, with construction to occur in the 2029-2031 time frame. As you can see, this is a future project and things can change. Time will tell and this is all the information as of now..
