River 10 Grand Opening of our new Patio/BBQ area and observance of annual Night To Unite event...

Residents joined us for BBQ, Bingo and yard games.

The fine Anoka Men in Blue joined us and helped out with their master grilling technics-thank you... we will be calling on you for our next event.

You can now protect yourself from catalytic converter theft and help our local law enforcement catch thieves by marking your catalytic converter with free marking kits available at the C**n Rapids Police Department and the Anoka Police Department.

The marking kit program was created as part of a bill I passed last year to try to stem the tide of catalytic converter thefts that has been sweeping our community. My bill also tightened up regulations on scrap dealers to try to curb the market for stolen catalytic converters.

You can pick up your free marking kit at the C**n Rapids Police Department or the Anoka Police Department. Make sure to bring your VIN number and license plate number with you so that you can register your kit. That way if your catalytic converter is stolen and subsequently found in the trunk of a thief’s car or at a scrap yard, Police will be able to track it back to you and hold the thief accountable for their actions. You can apply the marking yourself (the kit includes a sticker and a chemical that will etch the number onto the catalytic converter), or take it to a mechanic to do it for you.

This is such a big problem in our community— CRPD tells me they get one report of a stolen catalytic converter every day! Clearly more work needs to be done. That’s why I’m pushing legislation this year to do even more to stop auto theft and catalytic converter theft, including:

- doubling the money allocated to the Auto Theft Prevention Program
- create a new equipment library for law enforcement agencies working on auto theft
- make it illegal to possess a detached catalytic converter unless you can prove it was lawfully obtained

My bill passed out of committee last week and should get a vote on the House floor soon.
