Merrell Johnson is seeking candidates for the positions of Materials Engineering Technician and Materials Engineering Technician Trainee. The selected candidate will receive on-the-job training and will perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials including concrete, soils, asphalt, and more. Qualified candidates should be adept at performing physical activity in varied environments and climates and adapting to variable shifts and locations. Candidates should posses a high level of integrity, be able to work independently, have strong written and verbal communication skills, basic computer skills, be highly organized and detailed, be able to safely lift at least 50 pounds, be able to traverse uneven terrain, climb scaffolding and ladders, and enjoy working outdoors. Candidates must have a valid drivers license and good driving record and must also be able to pass a vetting process and obtain access to multiple military installations.
You will work to ensure project adherence to project specifications and applicable building code, sampling and testing construction materials in both field and laboratory environments. Experience in reading construction plans and specifications is a plus but not required. Advancement opportunities include company provided training and certification by agencies such as ACI, NICET, Caltrans and more, and promotion to the position of Special Inspector with company provided training and certification through DSA, ICC, and AWS just to name a few.
