Today changed me.
I had the honor of attending the American Warriors Initiative presentation, where real estate professionals came together to do something truly life-changing—present a service dog to a local veteran.
We heard stories that shook us… stories of bravery, sacrifice, and the invisible battles so many veterans continue to fight long after they come home. In Wisconsin alone, there are 250 veterans waiting for a service dog.
Can you imagine coming home carrying everything they’ve seen and experienced… and feeling like you have to hold it all inside?
So many veterans say, “I’m okay,” when they’re not. Many struggle with post traumatic stress. Many face homelessness, broken relationships, and far too many are lost to su***de. And yet, a dog—a loyal companion who never judges—can be a lifeline.
We heard from incredible speakers, including Karen Vaughn, who lost her son, a Navy SEAL. Her story alone brought the entire room to tears. But in those tears, there was also connection… gratitude… and a powerful reminder of the cost of our freedom.
What struck me most was looking around the room and seeing local veterans—our neighbors—quietly wiping away tears. That moment will stay with me forever.
This experience has changed how I view my freedom. Deeply.
I’m so grateful for organizations like American Warriors Initiative that are truly changing lives and giving hope where it’s needed most.
If this event is offered again, please go. Please show up. Please listen. Because honestly… knowing that thousands were invited and so many chose not to attend breaks my heart.
We can do better for those who have given us everything.
