Nullification is a tool that the Founding Fathers gave us for a reason. It was first used in the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions, written by Thomas Jefferson in 1798 and Madison in 1799, respectively. These resolutions condemned the Alien and Sedition Acts as unconstitutional. Furthermore, they asserted that state governments had authority to nullify, or interpose, the acts along with any other unconstitutional law.

U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has introduced H.R. 10221, the “Flock-Off Act,” to “prohibit the use of Federal funds for covered camera systems and associated components, and for other purposes.”

These camera networks do not solely photograph suspected criminals; they continuously record the movements of law-abiding citizens, then store and share that data. Taxpayers should not be forced to fund a warrantless-tracking infrastructure that treats every driver and pedestrian as a criminal suspect in a law-enforcement dragnet.

The Flock-Off Act upholds the Fourth, Fifth, and 14th Amendments by preventing the federal government from subsidizing mass surveillance, and puts the financial burden on local governments that seek to use these draconian systems. Furthermore, the bill accomplishes this without expanding federal control or bureaucracy.

Contact your U.S. representative and senators, and urge them to co-sponsor and support the Flock-Off Act (H.R. 10221)!
