Now is no time to shrink back. Look at me and listen to what I'm about to say:

You CAN do this.
You CAN keep your houseplants alive.
This time WILL be different.

Here is what you’re going to do.

You’re gonna go to the store, look for these plants, and follow my instructions word for word. It’s gonna take courage, but I know you can do it. I’ll be with you every step of the way.

Snake plants: Prefer shade to partial sun and sandy, well-drained soil. Water when the soil is dry. Avoid overwatering.

ZZ plants: Prefer medium to bright indirect light, up to six hours a day. Water every 2-3 weeks and let the soil dry out in between waterings.

Pothos plants: Tolerate most any light well, except for direct sunlight. Can be grown in water or dry soil. Only water when the soil feels dry.

Jade plants: Prefer bright indirect light. Water when the soil is dry and prune dead or shriveled branches.

Rubber trees: Like bright indirect light. In the winter, when rubber trees are dormant, water every 2 to 3 weeks.

With just 5 DAYS LEFT IN 2022, I wanted to wrap up this year with a celebratory and reflective 5-Day New Year’s Countdown and I challenge YOU to join me!

I'm putting my thoughts here to help remind me where I’ve been and to let you know you’re not alone if you’re still trying to figure out this crazy journey of life.

Without further ado:

DAY 5: Five Lessons Learned in 2022

1. When you mess up, the best thing to do is admit it plainly and say you’re sorry.
2. People close to me deserve my full attention. Phone down, eyes up, work aside.
3. It’s okay to put up boundaries with certain people. Not everyone will understand the boundaries, but that’s okay.
4. Sometimes when you try something, it’s a big, fat failure. That doesn’t say anything about you, your gifts, or your worth.
5. Always remember to put time aside for self-care and do things you enjoy the most.

Let me introduce you to a Holiday favorite in this household: Buttery Breakfast Christmas Casserole

You read that right... the word buttery is in the TITLE of this recipe.

The focus of the holidays is always on the dinner

But what about feeding hungry house guests the morning of or the morning after a big holiday sha-bang?!

This one is a crowd favorite and requested year after year (sorry turkey and ham) and is SO easy to prep ahead of time!

Let's get into it!
1 lb pre-cooked croissants (about 5 to 7), split in half lengthwise
1 tbsp olive oil, more for baking dish
1 bunch scallions thinly sliced, greens reserved
1 lb sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
2 tsp finely chopped fresh sage
8 eggs
3 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
8 ounces Gruyère, grated (2 cups)
1¼ teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions for this Recipe can be found on New York Times Cooking - Or abbreviated below!

Step 1
Tear croissants into large bite-size pieces, set aside

Step 2
In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add sliced scallions and sausage meat, breaking up meat with a fork, until mixture is well browned, about 5 minutes. Stir in sage, and remove from heat.

Step 3
In a large bowl, toss together croissants and sausage mixture. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, 1½ cups cheese, salt and pepper.

Step 4
Oil a 9- x 13-inch baking dish. Turn croissant mixture into pan, spreading it out evenly over the bottom. Pour egg mixture into pan. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 4 hrs or overnight.

Step 5
Ready to bake? Heat oven to 350 degrees. Scatter remaining cheese over top. Bake until golden brown and firm to the touch, 45 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes. Garnish with sliced scallion tops before serving.

Real talk.

It might seriously be time to ditch the landlord, buy a home, and make your own rules. This quick 5-question quiz may help you know for sure. (But you gotta be honest, K?).

1. Can you afford a down payment? You don’t need piles of cash, but you do need a little (say 3-10% of the home price) to qualify for a competitive interest rate.
2. Do you have regular income? Two years of employment history is preferred, but other factors, such as a high credit score and low debt-to-income ratio, can sub for less than two years.
3. Do you know where you want to live? If you’re new to the area, you might want to wait a few months and get your bearings. I promise you’ll know what areas feel like home after a while.
4. Do you plan on staying put for a while? No one knows the future, but sticking around for 2-5 years is ideal if you can make it work.
5. Are you comfortable with current home prices? Sure, they’re higher than you’d like, but when you run the numbers, you feel confident you can make the budget work.
