Here is a quick spotlight on Louis Miller, a prominent builder and architect that operated around southeast Missouri for almost 50 years. Miller was born in 1853 and lived most of his life in Arcadia, Missouri. You can see his work sprinkled over many of the surrounding towns.

Some of his buildings that have survived in Farmington include the A. S. Davis Building on Liberty Street, at least two homes on West Columbia Street, the Minuteman Press Building downtown, along with the Vollath building across the street, and i'm sure many more that I haven't discovered yet. The old Odd Fellows Building and the Realty Building are examples of some that are no longer standing.

Miller contributed so much to the area of Arcadia, Missouri and helped promote it as a summer getaway for people from St. Louis. He built the Arcadia Hotel in 1910 which is no longer there, but what does remain are the Arcadia Valley Bungalows which are 9 craftsman style homes that he built starting in 1909 centered around what he named Bethesda Spring. They have been recently remodeled and can be rented out to provide the perfect little getaway, which is exactly the goal Miller had in mind over 100 years ago.
