๐"Okay, want to help me buy a house?" Adrian texts me one afternoon in early May.
"Wait, what??" I thought. "Uh, heck yes!"
Adrian and I met about 5-6 years when we met while I was at Penn. Early on we bonded over a shared love of Marvel and everything to do with cats, and we've been friends ever since!
As a long-time resident of West Philly, Adrian knew that's where he wanted to end up. He wanted a relatively finished home, near public transportation, for an affordable price. We looked at few homes in the neighborhood, imagining the possibilities in a historic home and another that was pricey but beautifully done, complete with nerd decor. Several houses and stoop cats later, we found a freshly rehabbed rowhome near Market St with an enclosed porch, fully finished basement, and new back deck.
We managed to get the house under contract, then it was off to inspections! And thank goodness we did - though the house had been rehabbed, the contractor had installed an HVAC system that was inappropriate for the venting supply, causing a heat buildup in the walls. Can you imagine your walls reaching over 200 degrees? ๐ฅต Luckily, we were able to negotiate for the installation of a high-efficiency HVAC unit as well as other repairs. And even though there were some bumps in the road with Adrian's appointed lender (not my preferred, but offered a great first-time homebuyer program), we kept everything on track and Adrian got his new home. โบ๏ธ Only a few short weeks later, Adrian rescued a cat who had been wandering on his block, and now his cat Sly has a new sister, Chloe! ๐ป
Congratulations Adrian, I can't wait to see what you do with your new home and Lego room! And if you're interested in Lego, Adrian has an amazing account where he displays all his latest Marvel-Lego acquisitions.
