What a fantastic afternoon at the McElroy Meetup yesterday! 🌟 Hosted by Docomomo US/Philadelphia + Philadelphia Modern Homes , we welcomed architecture enthusiasts to tour the extraordinary personal home of mid-century pioneering builder Robert McElroy at 36 Rabbit Run Rd, Malvern, PA.

Guests immersed themselves in Bob’s visionary design. Highlights included a captivating talk from Holly Gore of Wharton Esherick Museum , exploring the home’s artistic ties to Wharton Esherick, and insights from Chris Adams, who shared firsthand stories of collaborating with master craftsman Horace Hartshaw on the home’s iconic woodwork: the sculptural spiral staircase, the custom kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, and those dramatic driftwood-weathered bald cypress siding planks.

We heard personal anecdotes from Bob's daughter Loretta McElroy, networked over fall-inspired nibbles and cider beautifully prepared by Dantasticfood , and explored every thoughtful detail that makes this 1975 gem a true masterpiece. A huge thank you to everyone who joined—your passion for modern design made it unforgettable!

The designer constructed over 200 houses in the suburbs during his career. His own residence was built outside Malvern in 1975.
