Why do we celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the U.S.? The holiday is celebrated as a way of honoring Mexican culture & heritage. In Mexico it's aka Battle of Puebla Day, which recognizes the day in 1862 when Mexico's army defeated France in the Battle of Puebla during Franco-Mexican War. Despite being vastly outnumbered by the French, Mexican troops were able to hold off the French invasion and came out victorious. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
