If you're planning a custom build, here are four things to fight for in your laundry room👇

1. A center island, even a small one.
This is the change that surprises every homeowner. Once you have a flat surface in the middle of the room to fold on and sort onto, you'll never go back.

2. A window.
Natural light in a laundry room matters more than people realize. You'll spot stains you would've missed under a recessed bulb. The room will feel twice as big. And honestly, you'll just want to be in there more. Which matters when it's a room you visit 10+ times a week.

3. A real sink.
For hand-washing the things that can't go in the machine, soaking what needs soaking, rinsing paintbrushes, filling vases, and bathing small dogs. Build it deep, and put a sprayer on it. You'll use it constantly.

4. Storage above the counters, not just below.
Lower cabinets are a given. Uppers are where the real organization happens. Detergents, dryer sheets, stain treatments, extra hangers, lightbulbs, vacuum bags, gift wrap (yes, it ends up here), and all of it needs a home. Without uppers, every flat surface in the room becomes a dumping ground, and the room you designed to be beautiful suddenly isn't.
