Downtown Dallas may have just taken one of the biggest sports and real estate hits in DFW history.
The Dallas Mavericks are targeting the old Valley View Mall site at I-635 and Preston Road in North Dallas — 104 acres for a new arena and entertainment district.
Then, one day later, the Dallas Stars signed a letter of intent for a potential ~$1 billion arena district at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano.
Both teams. Back to back. In 48 hours.
And both currently play at American Airlines Center — where their leases run through 2031.
This is not just sports news.
This is Dallas real estate news.
Because teams do not just chase fans.
They chase land.
They chase parking.
They chase access.
They chase corporate money.
They chase future growth.
And right now the signal is loud:
DFW’s center of gravity is moving north.
North Dallas.
Plano.
Frisco.
Prosper.
Celina.
If both projects happen, Victory Park could lose two of its biggest traffic engines — while North Dallas and Plano gain massive new entertainment anchors.
The Plano City Council vote on the Stars proposal is June 8.
That vote matters more than the announcement
📌 Quick facts:
→ Mavs: 104 acres, Old Valley View Mall, I-635 & Preston
→ Stars: potential ~$1B arena district, Willow Bend, Plano
→ Both AAC leases expire: 2031
→ Plano vote: June 8, 2026
💾 Save this — the June 8 vote could change the picture.
