I’ve been here long enough to know that October is when Reston, Virginia really turns. 🍁

The trees around Lake Anne, Lake Fairfax, and Reston’s miles of wooded paths start showing off, and suddenly even an ordinary afternoon walk feels like a fall outing.

What I’m looking forward to this fall in Reston:

🎃 Reston Farm Garden Market — pumpkins, cider donuts, and Fall Fun Fest, running weekends from September 26 through October 31.

🍂 Reston Town Center — cooler weather makes a Saturday of walking, shopping, dining outside, and lingering around the Pavilion even better.

🥾 Lake Fairfax Park — one of my favorite places for a fall walk when the trees around the lake turn red, orange, and gold.

☕ Lake Anne Coffee House — locally roasted coffee, seasonal favorites, and a great setting for slowing down by the water.

🎶 Rocktoberfest at Reston Town Center — October 10, with live music, Sip & Stroll, and a headlining performance by Vertical Horizon.

And if your ideal Saturday starts with local produce, the Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne continues every Saturday through November 21.

As a Reston real estate agent, I’m in and out of Lake Anne, North Point, and Hunters Woods all week, and this is the time of year I’d choose to show someone why people love calling Reston home.

Plot twist: you thought Falls Church, Virginia was one neighborhood… then you found the one that fits you perfectly. 🏡🌳

Falls Church makes a lot more sense once you start exploring it neighborhood by neighborhood.

One of the things I love about this area is how different the communities can feel—even when they’re only a few miles apart.

🌊 Lake Barcroft — waterfront homes, wooded streets, five private beaches, and a lifestyle you simply don’t expect this close to DC.

🌿 Sleepy Hollow — established homes, mature trees, larger lots, and a quiet, tucked-away feeling while remaining close to everything.

🏡 Pimmit Hills — incredibly convenient to Tysons, McLean, Metro, and major commuter routes, with everything from original homes to impressive new construction.

✨ Falls Hill — leafy residential streets and a close-in location near Falls Church City, Tysons, Arlington, and DC.

🌲 Virginia Forest — mature trees, larger lots, and an established neighborhood feel that can be increasingly hard to find inside the Beltway.

🏘️ Raymondale — a smaller community with parks, trails, recreation, and a true neighborhood atmosphere.

📐 Holmes Run Acres — one of Northern Virginia’s architectural gems, known for distinctive Mid-Century Modern homes in a wooded setting.

And that’s just the beginning.

Something else people don’t always realize: a “Falls Church” address can mean the independent City of Falls Church or one of several Falls Church communities in Fairfax County—each with its own housing, amenities, location, and personality.

Whether you love Mid-Century Modern architecture, want a lake lifestyle, prefer a walkable town center, need easy access to Tysons, or simply want more trees and space, there’s probably a corner of Falls Church worth exploring.

I have to go to Alexandria, Virginia for an “emergency.” 🚨

Very urgent matters include: grabbing coffee and something fresh from the bakery, wandering the cobblestones of Captain’s Row, taking a walk along the Potomac River waterfront, happy hour at BARCA Pier & Wine Bar, browsing the shops along King Street, and finishing things off with ice cream at Pop’s. 🍦

Obviously, none of this could wait.

If I had to choose my favorite street in all of Alexandria, Virginia, Captain’s Row on Prince Street would be very hard to beat.

Here’s what I love about it: the cobblestones immediately tell you this isn’t just another pretty street, and the historic brick rowhomes lining both sides give it the kind of character that simply can’t be recreated with new construction.

Colorful front doors, shutters, old brick, gas-style lanterns, mature trees, and homes that have been standing here for generations — every few feet there’s another detail worth noticing.

And somehow, despite being right in the heart of Old Town, it still feels wonderfully residential.

Homes on Captain’s Row can command roughly $1.3M to $2.5M+ depending on size, condition, history, and renovations. They don’t come available often, which is part of what makes this little stretch of Alexandria so special.

Captain’s Row is the 100 block of Prince Street in Old Town, just steps from the Alexandria waterfront and only a few blocks from King Street’s restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, and everything else that makes Old Town so walkable.

If you're looking for a home in Alexandria and your wish list includes history, architecture, walkability, and a neighborhood that actually feels like somewhere, Old Town is one of the first places I’d show you.

Lil City Creamery in Downtown Falls Church is one you need on your list before summer ends. 🍦☀️

Have you been to Lil City Creamery in The Little City? If not, consider this your sign.

It’s one of those quintessential Falls Church summer stops: grab a cone, find a spot outside, and enjoy one of the last warm evenings of the season.

If you go, try the Salty Caramel — or Coffee Oreo if it’s on the board. And with rotating flavors, there’s usually a good excuse to come back and try another. 🍨

Grab a seat outside if you can, then walk over to Mr. Brown’s Park just steps away and make an afternoon or evening of exploring Downtown Falls Church.

Because sometimes the best summer plans are the simplest ones: good ice cream, a walk through town, and nowhere you need to be next. ☀️
