If you own your home, please take a few minutes to check your county’s tax appraisal district website and make sure your homestead exemption (and any other exemptions for which you may qualify) is applied to your primary residence.

Just because it was there before doesn’t mean it still is. Recent changes have caused some exemptions to fall off.

This exemption can save you a significant amount of money. In just the past week, I’ve spoken with three families who should have had it but didn’t. One is receiving over $8,000 back in overpaid taxes, and another over $4,000 from the last two years. Plus, their monthly payments are decreasing.
