A few weeks ago we went to NYC for a long weekend, and went to the 9/11 Memorial. I don’t think there are any words for what happened 25 years ago, and being on ground zero is sombering.

What I discovered while we were there was the Survivor Tree, which I don’t think is talked about enough.

This is not a great picture, but this Callery pear tree was found under the rubble of the twin towers, broken and burned. With the help of New York City’s parks and recs department, they were able to bring it back to health and returned to the memorial years later.

Now it’s a beautiful, blossoming tree- a symbol of strength, hope, and resilience. I think it’s important to remember that even during the heaviest of times, everyone came together to help- humanity, kindness, courage, and being there for one another.

Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight.
