🚨 “FLUSHABLE” WIPES ARE NOT FLUSHABLE.
“Flushable” is a marketing claim, not a plumbing fact.
Toilet paper disintegrates. Wipes stay intact. In older cast-iron drains, they snag on scale or roots, catch grease, and form a nasty matted mass. That’s a fatberg headed for your sewer line.
ONLY THE 3 Ps:
✅ Paper
✅ P*e
✅ P**p
Trash the rest: wipes, even “flushable” ones, paper towels, floss, cotton swabs, feminine products, cat litter, grease, and oil.
Watch for:
🚽 Recurring backups
🫧 Gurgling
🐌 Multiple slow drains
👃 Sewage smell
⬆️ Water rising in another fixture when you flush
This isn’t just plumber talk: Laredo Utilities reported about 1,500 sewer and drainage requests in a year, with wipes the top culprit. Anchorage spends $100,000+ annually removing wipes and grease.
In Cerritos, Norwalk, Bellflower, Lakewood, Whittier, and Long Beach, older homes with original cast-iron drains can be especially unforgiving.
