I went into Downtown Leesburg thinking I was just trying a fun little workshop…

Then someone handed me a pile of vintage plates and suddenly I was VERY invested.

There’s something so fun about taking old pieces with their own little history and turning them into something completely new.

And let’s just say… I may have found my newest creative obsession.

I get some version of this question all the time:

“We’re moving to Loudoun County. Where should we actually live?”

And I always want to ask about your life before I ask about your budget.

Because Ashburn, Leesburg, Purcellville, and Sterling may all be in Loudoun County, but living in them can feel completely different.

If you want newer homes, amenities, convenience, and everything close by, you may love living in Ashburn. If Saturday morning means walking downtown for coffee, grabbing dinner somewhere local, and actually knowing your favorite bartender, Leesburg might feel much more like you.

If you're dreaming about acreage, mountain views, wineries nearby, and a little breathing room, living in Purcellville starts making a lot of sense. And if you're looking for more value, mature neighborhoods, easier access toward Fairfax County, or even a home with no HOA, don't overlook Sterling.

That's why searching for the best places to live in Loudoun County isn't really about finding the town with the highest ranking.

It's figuring out where your actual life works.

The right home in the wrong location gets old surprisingly fast.

Some weeks, you don't need a vacation.

You just need a place where you lose track of time.

Lately, I've realized that's what I'm craving more than anything. Not another crowded restaurant or another place that feels rushed, but somewhere you can slow down, have a great meal, and actually enjoy the company you're with.

That's exactly what happened when my husband and I checked out More Better Restaurant & B**r Garden in Round Hill.

Somehow, two hours flew by without either of us reaching for our phones. We were talking, laughing, enjoying great food and local drinks, and before we knew it, the evening was gone.

It's funny because one of the biggest concerns I hear from people thinking about moving farther west is, "Won't there be less to do?"

But that's not what I see at all.

What I see are places full of character. Places where you actually want to linger instead of rushing to the next thing. Weekends feel a little slower, conversations last a little longer, and community feels a little more genuine.

To me, that's one of the most overlooked benefits of living in western Loudoun. You're not just choosing a home—you're choosing the kind of lifestyle where a simple Friday night can leave you feeling completely recharged.

Thinking about moving to Leesburg, Virginia? There are a few things I wish every buyer knew before they started looking at homes here.

And I say that as someone who genuinely loves living in Leesburg.

Depending on where you buy, your experience can be completely different. Living inside the Town of Leesburg comes with an additional town property tax, historic downtown homes can have renovation restrictions, and even something as simple as which side of town you choose can change your commute and everyday routine.

But that’s also what I love about Leesburg. You can have the historic downtown lifestyle where you walk to coffee, dinner, and local shops, or choose newer neighborhoods closer to Wegmans, shopping, and everyday conveniences. Drive a little farther and suddenly you’re surrounded by wineries, breweries, farms, and some of the prettiest countryside in Northern Virginia.

There really isn't one version of living in Leesburg.

So before you choose the house, figure out which version actually feels like you.

If someone asks me where I actually eat in Loudoun County, not just where I recommend, The Conche is going to come up pretty quickly.

I’ve been here for long lunches with friends, date nights with my husband, Mother’s Day, and plenty of random “let’s go somewhere good” dinners. And somehow, I’m still not tired of it.

The Conche in Leesburg is known for incorporating chocolate and cocoa into dishes you would NEVER expect. And I’ll admit, cocoa with scallops or on a burger sounds a little questionable until you actually taste what they’re doing with it. 😂 It’s savory, subtle, and completely different from anything else around here.

And then there’s dessert. If you’ve ever watched their chocolate sphere melt tableside, you already know. It doesn’t matter how many times I see it, I’m still pulling out my phone.

There are so many great restaurants in Leesburg and Loudoun County, but this is one I genuinely keep coming back to.

So if you’re looking for a unique date-night restaurant or somewhere special to eat in Northern Virginia, put The Conche on your list.

Now be honest: cocoa-crusted scallops... intrigued or absolutely not? 😂🍫

Moving to Northern Virginia sounds exciting… until you realize choosing the wrong area could mean spending an extra hour in traffic every day. 😅

That’s why I tell buyers: don’t just ask, “Do I love this house?” Ask, “Do I actually want the life that comes with this house?”

Maybe you want more space and don’t mind driving. Maybe getting home 30 minutes earlier matters more than another bedroom. Maybe you love a beautiful yard… but absolutely do NOT want to spend every Saturday taking care of it. 😂

Those things matter way more than people realize.

If you’re moving to NoVA, watch this before you start falling in love with houses online.

One minute you’re driving through western Loudoun... the next you’re walking into a place that feels like it belongs in a Bavarian village.

I've been reminding myself lately that life can't be all work.

Seeing these photos again made me smile. They're actually from a little while ago, but they felt worth sharing because I didn't realize how much I needed that night until I looked back on it.

For a couple of hours, there were no emails to answer, no rushing from one thing to the next, and no pressure to be productive. Just paint, good conversation, lots of laughter, and the chance to learn something completely new.

It reminded me that not every hobby has to become a side hustle, and not every free moment has to be "useful." Sometimes it's enough to create something with your own hands, be around good people, and enjoy the process without worrying about the outcome.

A huge thank you to Amy Ramsey Walton for opening your studio and sharing your incredible talent with all of us. If you've ever thought about taking one of her classes, I can't recommend it enough. You'll leave with more than a painting—you'll leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and probably wondering why you don't make time for things like this more often.

So now I'm curious...
