Spent the day doing my daily run for toilet water and then gathered with friends to take supplies to Swannanoa and Black Mountain, one of the many disaster zones in Western North Carolina and neighboring states. Many towns are not represented on the news, the need is real friends! I refuse to post the horrible pictures.
Why has Helene been so debilitating for our region? We are in the mountains, Appalachia, Blue Ridge, Smoky Mountains . . many of our roads and towns are old trading trails and villages built along the beautiful, presitine rivers and streams, nestled in many valleys of the region.
Once the land was saturated, and the streams or rivers filled there was nowhere for the water to go but through the valleys of these beautiful mountain towns many of us call home.
With rainfall from two weather systems, over three days was more than the land, creeks, streams and rivers could handle. There is a stat that these storms dropped enough precipitation to cover NC with 3.5” of rain!
My family and I are fortunate to have our home intact, our health, family, including my family in the St. Pete, Florida area. Along with communities that cares to do the right thing by others.
Please keep supplies coming. The need for muck boots of all sizes, sleeping bags, blankets, hand and foot warmers, clothing and non-perishable food is always welcome. There are many good ones out there trying to help each other! ❤️
A great understanding as to why our water system will take so long, it must be excavated prior to being rebuilt.
