Did anyone else listen to all 2 hours of oral arguments today? ποΈ Just me, maybe. Hmu if you want to talk politics. My wife can't handle it. π€£
I was hopeful SC could make some headway on putting DJT out of our misery, but it looks like John Roberts will be presiding over yet another unfortunate ruling.
Some noteworthy reactions:
Ketanji Brown Jackson seemed like the only justice willing to name Jan 6 as an insurrection. Everyone else seemed worried about the fallout from setting the precedent of removing a candidate from the ballot. I know that several Republican state officials filed amicus briefs or have just publicly threatened to remove Biden from ballots if Trump is removed.
If SC overturns the CO decision to remove, it shows they are susceptible to bullying pressure campaigns. Even if they decline to rule and punt on the issue it will be a failed attempt to restore their image of impartiality. It shows they are more concerned with their legacy, and credibility than actually doing their job which is to interpret the law and provide guidance. If they weren't cowards, they would read the plain text of the amendment and allow states to remove insurrectionists.
End rant. Peace
