The worst of the housing inventory shortage is coming to an end, mortgage rates are stabilizing and job additions are continuing.

NC Realtors® is making $625,000 in grants available for Western North Carolina homeowners impacted by Hurricane Helene, with $1,000 available for each qualifying household.

The NC REALTORS® Disaster Relief fund is getting $500,000 from the Realtors® Relief Foundation and $125,000 from the NC Realtors® Housing Foundation.

One application is allowed per household. Also, applicants will need to supply identification, proof of ownership or a mortgage, and photo evidence of damage.

Applications are now being taken, and we encourage LOTSAR members to inform impacted community members about the fund.

LOTSAR volunteers will be at the LOTSAR office (21 Restaurant Court, Asheville) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30 to help members or applicants with filling out applications, or to answer questions.

🚰 Water Service Update 🚰

The City of Asheville continues to work diligently to provide customers with potable water.

To mitigate issues with turbidity at the North Fork Reservoir, turbidity “curtains” are being installed this week which will help capture floating sediment. A second round of in-reservoir treatment will also begin this week.

To date, water service has been restored to 99 percent of customers, although a systemwide Boil Water Notice remains in effect.

EPA deploys two mobile laboratories to test water in Asheville, NC and other communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. More than 375 samples from public water systems and private wells have been tested thus far in collaboration with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and local health departments.
