As a North Carolina Realtor who cares deeply about housing affordability, I’m urging Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey to reject the proposed 68.3% average increase in dwelling insurance rates.

This kind of drastic jump would hit renters, landlords, and property owners across the state — and it would only make our affordability challenges even worse.

Dwelling policies cover non-owner-occupied homes up to four units, including rentals and investment properties. Even if this doesn’t affect your own home directly, rising insurance costs ultimately impact everyone by driving up rents and housing prices. North Carolina families are already feeling the strain, and this proposal would push housing even further out of reach.

Commissioner Causey has stated clearly on his campaign website:

“It’s my constitutional duty to stand up to the insurance industry and hold them accountable and to champion transparency to protect our consumers. That’s why I have rejected every single rate hike proposed for your homeowner’s insurance – forcing the insurance companies to negotiate and provide the lowest and best rates possible for North Carolina homeowners.”

I hope he stands by this commitment now.

Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry is having their Walk For Your Neighbor fundraiser event on October 26th from 2-5pm in Swannanoa. Come out and support our neighbors!

After being cancelled last year due to Helene, our annual fundraiser Walk For Your Neighbor is BACK! Please join us on Sunday, October 26 at First Baptist Church of ***Swannanoa*** for a walk and block party! We’re still sorting out a few details, but there will be music, as well as food and drink! The walk will start at 2pm, with the block party continuing until 5pm. To add to the excitement, this day will also coincide with the 1-year anniversary of our NeighborCare Clinic!

Registration is by donation only, but we are encouraging a $20 minimum donation for those who are able.
