It is so humbling and fulfilling as professionals to be able to help rebuild for the people that lost their homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Here is a current success story that has come out of a group of professionals donating their time to continue to help those in need of housing. We are still a long way from normalcy in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, but the local community continues to work to support each help in this time of need.

Hillary Cole at Cole Surveying and Design and Jennifer Verprauskus at BareRoot Design are designing this project pro bono in order to bring this dream into reality. The school PTO is trying to design and build a Memorial Playspace and Legacy Garden in memory of Lucas and Felix Wisely, two students at our school who tragically lost their lives in Hurricane Helene. Please help us bring this space to North Buncombe Elementary school to remember and celebrate the Light these two boys brought into the lives of everyone who knew them.

Career Day at North Buncombe Elementary School. I talked to seven 3rd grade classes about what a landscape architect is and shared my love for landscape architecture as a profession with them!

Yesterday Wednesday February 5th, we had our survey GPS Trimble R-12 stolen on a project site in the Dillingham area of Barnardsville in Buncombe County, NC. These are specialized for use by surveyors so no one else can use them. We are asking for any information regarding this theft and a monetary reward for returning. We contacted the police of course but we are reaching out to the community to help us out! We are a small local business and this is a huge loss for us.

Many people are asking how to help the locals here in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. We need help rebuilding. Estimates are that 1 in 5 dwellings were negatively impacted by the devastation wrought by Helene. Many people didn't have flood insurance because the storm was unprecedented. Locally, Brian Sineath (Sineath Construction) and Andrew Willis (Tyyke Builders) (wonderful friends, clients, and contractors!) started a non-profit to help rebuild in the small mountain communities near Asheville that have been destroyed. They need donations for construction materials and supplies. This is a LEGIT cause and so important, the cold weather will be upon us soon and so many people don't have homes anymore. Thank you for your concern and for your willingness to help us here in WNC! We are struggling but we know that we can and will rebuild our communities with help from the generous support of other people!

We spent part of our day yesterday showing off our high tech survey equipment to interested high school students for career day at North Buncombe High School. The students asked really good questions and were engaged and excited to learn more about the profession. We were grateful to be invited to this event to help teenagers learn more about job opportunities in the field of land surveying!

Captured these survey markers while bicycling up to Rich Fire Outlook Tower in Hot Springs. Many people never stop to look at monuments and markers but they are an extremely important piece of both our history and looking forward into the future! They literally capture a location on the earth through utilizing coordinates. Pretty extraordinary when you think about it!
