Earning Your Friendships….Romans 5:8 👉
I have been a travel nurse now for 5 years. I have worked at 8 different hospitals and over 30+ contracts. In all of those hospitals and nearly all of those contracts I’ve been in the position of being looked at as the “new guy” or the “new traveler” .. and that position [does not]come with automatic trust from the other staff your working with… you gotta earn it. Nobody says this out loud, but relationally you feel it and psychologically its true. And that trust / friendship usually comes AFTER I handle a bad situation well.
But note, I had been a nurse for 7 years BEFORE I was ever in this “new guy” situation as a travel nurse. I had worked at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland KY for that first 7 years. Then I took a new job as a travel nurse. And I remember the first contract I did. When I showed up day 1 nobody talked to me. I got my assignenent and got to work, and it was not until I handled some situations rightly that I earned others trust and gained their friendship.
Friendship cannot be forced. It cannot be commanded. I could ask others to help me clean my patients, medical situations I’d need help, etc. and had a right to do so from my “position”, BUT I couldn’t go back out to the nursing station and crack jokes and enjoy my time UNTIL I earned their trust.
GOD IS THE SAME!
“He (the Father) PROVED His great love for us BY SENDING His Son Jesus to die for us” (Roman’s 5:8). Love / friendship isn’t earned by Gods commandment to us, it is earned by His sacrifice for us. God seeks to gain honest love and friendship WITH YOU by the sacrifices He made FOR YOU! This is real love , real relationship, real trust, real friendship He seeks to have with you as the Holy Spirit reveals Gods efforts to you!
Friendship with God is not brashly commanded, it is lovingly earned (1 John 4:8-10). This is His motive in the cross, and His drive in drawing you from your sin and self seeking to His provision and salvation.
That’s the MIGHTY GOD I serve!
