The Aspen Airport will close beginning Sunday, April 4, 2027, and is scheduled to reopen on Friday, November 19, 2027.

The project is a major long-term investment in the safety, reliability, and future of the airport and regional air service. During the closure, crews will reconstruct the runway and complete a runway shift designed to meet current FFA standards.

Our take:

• Tourism, and the industries supported by it, will certainly feel the shift, but those who want to be in Aspen know there is no replacement for this town. The Eagle airport is an hour and a half away, which many people will use. It won’t be a complete ghost town.

• Expect many hotels, condominiums, and commercial buildings to undergo construction during this time. Owners are using the lull to make updates across the board.

• We are excited for a quiet, local-focused Aspen summer! Those of us who live here full time will certainly enjoy a lowkey and local-oriented summer, which might feel like Aspen in 2010!
