10 years ago I was told I had 27 surface cavities that wouldn’t be covered by my insurance and would cost $2700 out of pocket to fix. In 2018, I had saved up the $2700 to have them fixed but was told I had waited for too long, needed 17 root canals and the price jumped up to $12k. Halfway through that year, I ended up needing 8 extractions. By 2019, I had my tops root canal’d and capped. At the end of Feb 2020, I had eight of my bottoms root canal’d and temporary caps put on. The follow up appointment in Mar 2020 for my permanent caps was rescheduled, then cancelled a week later due to COVID-19. By the time they reopened at the end of July 2020, I was told new infections had grown and I needed to have all of my bottoms extracted. In Feb 2021 I had the remainder of my bottoms extracted teeth pulled with bone grafting. In Feb 2021, I met with my surgeon again and scheduled the appointment to have my bottom implants put in. Two days before that surgery, I received a call informing me that my surgeon has fractured her wrist and all surgeries were cancelled until further notice. In Ap 2022, the new surgeon informed me he wanted four times the amount of money to do it. Knowing this was out of my price range at the time, I put everything on hold until I was in a better financial spot. Three months later I moved from NJ to PA in the height of inflation and ongoing interest rate hikes. 3 months later and a week after Chase started kindergarten, I was unexpectedly laid off. In 2024, my top caps started breaking off. Three dentists insisted on trying to talk me out of having my remaining tops extracted and insisted on doing second root canals/new caps. They told me that I had too much bone loss for implants to be a viable option. Last Oct, I found a surgeon who was able to do it within my budget. A month later I had my remaining teeth pulled and 6 implants put in. Today, I finally received my new smile and was able to eat solid foods for the first time in almost 6 months! This entire process tested me physically and emotionally, & I almost gave up many times. I can now eat, talk and walk without being in excruciating pain 😁 100% worth all of the darkest moments!
