Whether you’ve lived here for 5 months, 5 years, or 50 years, we all can admit that Athens-Limestone County has that little bit of charm that makes it feel like home instantly.
☀️ In every shop, around every grocery store aisle, and walking around town, smiling faces and friendly neighbors are there to greet you.
🏛️ The magic of the historic downtown square pairs together the rich history of Athens and the bright, new future with so many new shops, restaurants, and places to explore. From antique shops with hidden finds to cozy cafes to local boutiques bursting with character, there is always something happening downtown.
🎉 With festivals with flair, parades to bring the community together, and city-wide celebrations, it feels like there is always something happening in Athens. Life is celebrated with laughter and community. Our family’s personal favorites are:
🎻 Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention at Athens State University
🎶 Fridays After Five on the downtown square
🍫 Chocolate Walk by Athens Main Street - tickets drop on January 18th, 19th, and 20th (!!)
🎭 Mardi Gras Parade presented by High Cotton Arts and Athens Arts League
📖 Athens, AL Storytelling Festival
🌳Athens is truly the perfect mix of small town amenities with those scenic views of nature. Athens features four tracks and trails from Athens Recreation, which are great for exploring with your family while enjoying some gorgeous views. We love the Greenway Trail, which includes the perfect stop at a playground along the way.
While the sights and sounds make Athens-Limestone fun, the community is what truly sets it apart. Whether you’re a life-long resident or find yourself just passing through, Athens is truly a magical place to be, and we’re thankful to be here and to call it home.
