Known as โUpstateโs Downtown,โ the Hudson Valleyโs titular character is always bringing something new. Pocketbook Hudson, the 19th-century pocketbook factory-turned-hotel that debuted in October 2025, recently opened a bathhouse that began welcoming visitors last month (the hydrotherapy trend is here to stay), drawing design lovers with its eclectic mix of historic brick walls and stainless steel fixtures.
Perhaps the biggest draw of this picturesque town is the opportunity to shop for antiques on and around Warren Street: Head to Neven & Neven Moderne for midcentury, Scandinavian lounge chairs; ๐๐ป๐๐ถ๐พ๐๐ฒ ๐ช๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ต๐ผ๐๐๐ฒ for a hodgepodge of treasures; or Red Chair on Warren for European ironstone wares.
For a spot of nature, grab some provisions from Kittyโs Market or Talbott & Arding and head to Promenade Hill Park for views of the Hudson. Or, make the 15-minute drive to High Falls Conservation Area, where you can complete a 1.5-mile loop to see a 150-foot waterfall.
Art lovers will appreciate Frederic Church's Olana State Historic Site (a 10-minute drive from downtown Hudson), the former estate of landscape artist Frederic Edwin Church, a pivotal figure of the Hudson River School.
Art Omi in nearby Ghent, a 15-minute drive from Hudson, boasts an impressive 120-acre sculpture park, plus a long line of rotating exhibitions and artist residences.
When it comes to food, you canโt go wrong with a pastry from Mel the Bakery, an Italian dinner at Feast & Floret, or a late-night drink at Backbar.
