And finally we went to the Elms mansion built by another Millionaire family who still have their wealth and largely flew under the radar of publicity and fame. So interesting.

The Marble House was built by Alva and her husband William Vanderbilt in the French style. So pretty. Smaller than the breakers but still HUGE. They even had their own Chinese Tea room, now a restaurant, on the property. This house and Alva and some of the inspiration for the Gilded Age show.

The Breakers built by Cornelius and his wife Alice Vanderbilt in 1893-1895. The architecture is Italian style and was absolutely beautiful and had many "modern" elements that the first mansion did not. The lawn was huge and beautiful and and must see with Christmas lights.

Loved visiting Newport RI last month. Got inspired to check out this city and it's history after watching the Guilded Age. I love checking out homes in other cities/places.

We stayed at the Ocean Cliff Hotel. Solid B. No elevators nor ADA compliant anything but tons of history. This was a millionaire's home originally and rebuilt a few times and finally converted to a hotel. Great views and a popular wedding venue.

The servants of all the mansions would hang out at the 40 steps and play music and dance and try to enjoy their one day off a week.

Recent trip to Paris. Check out the real estate listings and the exterior home pics in Montmartre. We would have to live in Montmartre is we ever took up temporary residence in Paris!

On one of our last days in Scotland in 2023, we were walking along the river by our hotel and met a friendly local who invited us to take a tour of her home. What a treat!! Their home was built in 1792. The home has obviously been updated and renovated but what a stroll through time!

I love checking out what homes look like when I travel. On our trip to Iceland last fall, it was fascinating to see that the exterior of attached and detached homes are either concrete or metal!! This green house is gorgeous and it is steel! Muriels are common place on walls. Of course, in Iceland, you will want big windows so that you can gaze at the Northern Lights before bedtime!

A simple rainwater collection system can be a great weekend project that you can grow over time to meet expanding water needs.
