There's a lot to pay attention to in Atlanta right now. This article is from February, but one of the main quotes that jump out is "Atlanta now ranks No. 1 in the percentage of houses sold to investors." A THIRD of current home purchases are by corporations who often put them in the rental market. This lowers the inventory for individuals and families looking to buy a home. Home prices increasing 23% in one year and low inventory has increased demand for rental properties. This has caused rent to increase *30% in one year. So even though home prices are increasing it can still be more sensible and affordable to buy than rent. It doesn't look like corporate home purchasing is slowing down anytime soon, and rents will continue to rise with that. If you have any plans to buy a home it's looking like NOW will be the right time for a while.

Hedge funds and corporations have been buying up houses in metro Atlanta, adding fuel to an already hot market in which buyers are frequently bidding against each other as they try to find their next home among the shrinking options.
