If you own a home in DeKalb County, or your parents do, pay attention to this one.
DeKalb County is preparing to launch Brighter Home DeKalb, a new home repair program that county officials have said could provide up to $30,000 per eligible home for critical repairs.
We're talking about the expensive stuff: roofs, HVAC, plumbing and other repairs that can become the difference between comfortably staying in your home and facing a bill you weren't prepared for.
The program is expected to focus on homeowners who may need the help most, including seniors, veterans, homeowners with disabilities and people who have owned their homes for a long time.
Here's the catch: applications aren't open yet, and the county hasn't published the full program guidelines. I've also seen details circulating that haven't been officially confirmed.
So I pulled together what we actually know, what we don't know yet, and what you can start getting together now so you're not scrambling when applications open.
And please share this one.
You may not need it, but the parent who's been in their DeKalb home for 30 years might. So might the older neighbor who's been putting off replacing their HVAC or fixing their roof.

This closing was a few years in the making.
