While this stability offers a sense of assurance, it also translates into sluggish activity within the real estate market, with little prospect of inventory growth. The delicate balance between marginal demand and supply is evident: even with potential decreases in rates on the horizon, the uptick in demand may precede any substantial increase in available properties.

Demand, a multifaceted variable, hinges not only on desire but also on financial capacity, heavily influenced by prevailing interest rates. Consequently, any decrease in rates is likely to spur demand, driving prices upwards once again, assuming other factors remain constant.

Yet, this price escalation presents a dilemma for homeowners considering selling, particularly those holding onto low-rate mortgages. The appreciation needed to justify selling at lower rates might not offset the inflated prices of potential move-up properties, potentially leading to a standstill in the market.
