HELPING A PARENT MOVE. THE PRACTICAL AND THE EMOTIONAL — BOTH MATTER.
Moving a parent out of the home they've lived in for decades asks a lot of everyone.
Years of belongings, many of them carrying real weight. A parent saying goodbye to a house full of memories. Family members trying to help while managing their own feelings about what the move means.
What makes it go more smoothly:
Start with what nobody has feelings about. The garage, the spare linens, the kitchen gadgets. Get progress on the board before anything meaningful.
Let your parent decide. If they want to keep something, they keep it. The goal is to support the move, not to shrink what someone values.
Give the meaningful things their own time. The photographs and the pieces with history deserve a separate, unhurried afternoon. Not a box and a deadline.
Set up the familiar first. In the new place, put the bed, the favorite chair, and the photos where they'd expect them. It's the fastest way for somewhere new to feel like theirs.
Here's what that looks like when we do it. One named lead on the job, from first walkthrough to last box. Every box color-coded and itemized, so nothing important goes missing. And the bed made before the first night, because that first night in a new place is the hardest one.
You handle being their family. We'll handle the rest.
If your family is facing this, call or message us. We pick up on weekends too.
