Ask any real estate instructor and they’ll tell you: no matter how long you've been doing this, technology changes faster than any syllabus can keep up with.

I recently interviewed Jim Hogan, DREI Emeritus, for The Voices of REEA Legacy Series through the Real Estate Educators Association.

Jim started teaching real estate in 1973. I launched my school in 2024. That gave the conversation a useful frame: one educator newer to the profession sitting with another whose work helped shape the profession over several decades.

That is the value of the Legacy Series. It gives REEA members a chance to hear directly from the people who built schools, developed programs, taught generations of students, and helped move real estate education forward.

One line from Jim’s interview is worth holding onto:

“Make it like you’re making it for yourself.”

That is a high standard for anyone doing education work.
