At first glance I chuckled, then I realized how true this is. Plan for the worst case scenario on any home renovation. My favorite is when the contractor just disappears in the middle of a project. We’ve been set back anywhere from a day to well over a year while arranging a replacement. 🤷‍♂️

This could have VERY easily been Holly Hill. I had to pause and take a picture of this old homestead while I was out today. Edgefield was a prosperous county long ago. These homes were common. Expense / neglect have taken a toll. Fewer remain everyday. This one is sadly well beyond saving.

I suppose she’s like an aging pet cow - large, expensive to maintain, and temperamental, but at the end of the day, she looks at you with those big eyes and long dark eyelashes…

I’m shocked. So far, a pile of branches, but only one casualty from the blustery cold winter winds. Granted, there may be a couple that bounced and rolled “down the lane,” but this is recoverable. 👍

Although these are “spent”, paper whites are probably my favorite “holiday” flower. I think it’s the fragrance that captivates me. When I was young, old gardens seemed to smell sweeter. These bulbs will end up planted somewhere outside - even if in a forgotten corner - although I know that the chance of a future bloom is almost nonexistent. Yah never know.
