FUN FACT: Sugarloaf Key

Well...that didn't go quite according to plan. 😂🦇
Sugarloaf Key has one of the more unusual stories in Florida Keys history.
In 1929, developer Richter Perky built a wooden Bat Tower with a clever idea: encourage bats to live there and let them help control the area's mosquito population.
Except the bats apparently weren't interested in their new Florida real estate. After being brought to the Keys and released, they flew away instead. The tower went on to become one of Sugarloaf Key's quirky historic landmarks.

What’s happening in the Lower Keys real estate market? 🌴🏡
September brought some interesting shifts for Cudjoe Key, Summerland Key, Ramrod Key and Sugarloaf Key (33042).
The 2026 year-to-date median sale price reached $1,035,000, up 13.7% from 2025, while 203 homes have sold so far this year, up 20.8%. At the same time, active inventory is down, with 124 homes currently listed and 6.2 months of inventory.
For sellers, that means less competition than earlier in the year, although pricing still matters. For buyers, there are fewer choices in some price ranges, but opportunities remain depending on where and what you're looking for.
