🚩 A quick warning if you're buying a home this fall.
Right before closing, some buyers get an email that says the bank account for their money has changed. It looks real. It sounds urgent. "Please send today."
Don't do it. Don't wire any money until you call your closing attorney or lender first — using a phone number you already had, not the number in the email.
This is how people lose their whole down payment. It happens most in the last few days before closing, when everyone is busy and rushed. That's exactly when the scammers strike.
One more thing. If something feels off, don't just email back and ask "is this real?" The scammer will answer nice and calm and make you feel better. A calm answer is not proof.
The only safe thing is to pick up the phone and call a number you trust. Slow it down. Nobody real in your closing will be upset that you checked. The only person who wants you to hurry is the one trying to steal from you.
