Wednesday Wisdom ✨

If it weren’t for Alice H. Parker, we might ALL still be sitting in front of a wood-burning fireplace this winter out of necessity, not choice.

In 1919, she filed for a patent for a gas-powered furnace design that laid the groundwork for modern central heating and ductwork, including zoned heating and controlled airflow. While it wasn’t mass-produced at the time, her ideas quite literally warmed the future.

Born in 1895 and raised in Morristown, NJ, Parker studied at the Howard University Academy in Washington, D.C., earning her certificate with honors—proof that brilliance and preparation go hand in hand.

So the next time you adjust the thermostat and keep it moving… remember who helped make that comfort possible. 💡🏡

Last night was amazing! My real estate business, Joy of Homeownership was one of the sponsors at the annual Save Our Seniors Soirée, a Harlem Renaissance theme fundraising event created by True Blue 1881. We featured candles from Harlem Candle Company and cake pops from Cake Pop Joy.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth for A Sweet Moment in Harlem Renaissance Real Estate.

We closed another one!! In September 2021, Rhashawn called me while I was on vacation in Mexico. I apologized profusely because I was at the pool with a cocktail, music blasting and I could not find a quiet speak to her so we talked while the music played in the background. She was a referral and cousin of a Spelman sister who sent me over $2M in business in 2021, so yes, I was going to take this call WHILE on vacation, lol.

Rhashawn found the neighborhood she desired, Genesee built by DR. Horton in Newnan, GA on her own. She was relocating with her husband Johnathan and daughter from Charlotte, NC.

In this world of , will sometimes find their own home on the internet or a drive-by. The value I brought as a Global Real Estate Advisor and Realtor is my , , and buyer representation in this transaction. I was their eyes and ears throughout the six month building process, visiting the property regularly, joining them at the design center appointment, builder walk-throughs and private inspection as well as giving advice from my 21 years of experience in real estate, 10 of which were exclusively in new construction and development. At closing, Rhashawn remembered our first call and apologized for disturbing my vacation. I love working with people who value you and your time.

Today, I celebrate Shona Pinnock on the first day of Women’s History Month and Sisterhood Month. I need a Dancehall Air Horn sound clip for this post 😊!!
Professionally, Shona Pinnock is a powerhouse. She had led the charge in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion before it became a common phrase recently. For almost a decade, she was the Director of Human Resources and Diversity Officer at Consumer Reports. She also served as the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at Meredith Corporation.

She gives a whole new literal meaning to the urban phrase “getting the bag” as she is in leadership at Louis Vuitton. Shona is the very FIRST Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at the company working out of their offices in New York City.

She is devoted to service in our community and a member of both the Westchester Alumnae Chapter (NY) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated as well as the Westchester County (NY) Chapter, The Links, Incorporated.

Personally, Shona Pinnock has been someone I loved and one of my from the day we met in late 1994. Her sense of humor kept the entire line smiling during an often serious pledging process. So many stories and inside jokes while being on line in 1995, lol. A songbird, she sings beautifully as a soulful alto. Shona is originally from the Bronx, NY, of Jamaican descent, can Dollar Wine with the best of them and the person you want to be next to at every homecoming party! She is effortlessly gorgeous, a fashionista and can slay a selfie on the first take! You can find her anywhere fabulous (lol) including Villa Lewaro, the former home of Madam CJ Walker for exclusive events, Sundae Sermon in NYC, an international vacation with sister-friends, the V***e Clicqout Polo Classic or in a perfectly curated HomeKoming tent on Westview Avenue at Morehouse. I love you Shona and thanks for being you!
