Today as we celebrate Juneteenth, let's remember that it took 2 years for many of our enslaved ancestors to learn of their freedom. Within that 2nd year, as a back handed measure, our government passed the 13th amendment. This allowed many of our ancestors to be enslaved AGAIN since they were often jailed for baseless vagrancy and other false criminal charges that allowed the government to utilize their free labor AGAIN. See like today, they charge us more harshly for charges so that we can build up their wealth since many of the banks and corporations we support invest in private prisions. We are still fighting for our freedom because they simply changed the playbook by creating the 13th amendment, which only gave us partial freedom and allowed slavery of imprisoned people TILL THIS DAY, mostly of African descendant. These laws were created to keep us in bo***ge, but our ancestors fought so that we can earn an education by investing in ourselves, building wealth by inventing or creating a product so WE can change the narrative. We come from a strong lineage of inventors, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, intellectuals and fighters that created many of the inventions and rights we (as well as any other minority group) enjoy today! Let's keep fighting and donating to causes that's doing the work to fight for the freedom of our people and help to abolish these laws!
