We are Entrepreneurs.

We are a special breed of people. We are creating something from nothing. We are now the CEO and the Janitor. Whatever role it takes to succeed. We are the owners of our companies. Most of the time, they aren't even companies, at least at the beginning. Just a part-time hobby that becomes an obsession. Whatever it takes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Going door to door, hanging flyers, sleeping on friend's couches or not sleeping at all.

We have massive and extreme responsibility for everything. It all falls on us. It's not for the faint of heart. The pressure. The intensity. It all falls on us. There isn't a week that goes by that we don't think about quitting. If we aren't failing, we aren't moving. We're just standing still. We keep getting up, each time we fall. Something breaks. Someone doesn't choose us. Our competitor beats us. The battle is lost but not the war. We are in it for the long haul. We are planting seeds in our garden.

Momentum happens and people start coming to us, we shake the trees and the crop falls into our lap. Referrals come. Testimonials come. Employees come. We train, we teach and we share our ways. We create systems and plans, something scalable. We collaborate. Rinse and repeat. People start to know our name and our reputation grows. We take a day off every once in a while and we start to see freedom.

You haven't paid yourself in six months so the business can be profitable. Profit first is your motto. You have to hunt for your own food, no one gives it to you. Nothing is funded. No one is coming to save you.

This is no longer what you do, it's become who you are. For better or for worse. You realize, you're not a quitter. Not on anyone. A relationship, a job, a project, your business, yourself. You just keep learning and recreating yourself. You can't stop, won't stop. Keep having conversations. Keep dusting yourself off. Keep pushing.

You can talk yourself out of it. You can take the easy road, go back to a full time job or do the hard stuff. Remember Robert Frost, "Two roads diverged in a wood and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."
