It’s hard to believe how much life can change in a single year.
At the end of August 2025, I lost my mother following what was supposed to be a routine heart procedure. While I was still grieving that loss, my own health took an unexpected turn. After suffering a stroke, doctors discovered brain tumors during an MRI. In March 2026, I underwent a craniotomy to remove the tumors. The pathology confirmed Stage IV cancer, and I completed radiation treatments to address what remained. I am still waiting to learn whether those treatments were successful.
Since then, additional testing revealed that the primary source of the cancer is my esophagus. A PET scan confirmed the diagnosis, and my next step is chemotherapy with immune support, followed by a major surgery to remove part of my esophagus, upper stomach, and surrounding lymph nodes. and continued chemotherapy.
The road ahead is challenging. Even though the surgery is considered high-risk and will require a lengthy recovery, leaving me unable to work for several months, I am determined to fight and beat this diagnosis. As an independent Realtor with EXP Realty and a small business owner, I don’t have access to paid leave, sick time, or FMLA benefits. During my recovery, I will have little to no income while still facing ongoing living expenses, medical costs, and health insurance premiums that I cannot afford to lose.
Like many people, I’ve always preferred to handle things on my own. Asking for help does not come easily to me. I have cut back on every expense possible and am currently appealing a Social Security disability denial, even after having paid into the system since I was 15! However, the reality is that the months ahead will be financially challenging.
If you are in a position to contribute, no amount is too small. Every dollar will help ease the burden and allow me to focus on what matters most right now: fighting this cancer and beating it. If donating isn’t possible, I know times are tough for a lot of people, sharing this post would mean just as much. A share can help my story reach someone who may be able to help.
