Southern folklore says crape myrtles planted near the front of a home were believed to help ward off unwanted spirits, standing almost like guardians at the entrance.

And that dreamy blue-green porch ceiling? That’s haint blue; a tradition rooted in Southern Lowcountry folklore, where the color was believed to keep “haints,” or restless spirits, from entering the home. 🩵
